(1) The opening bid was alerted and described as having 11-16 points with no 5 card suit.

Sitting South, I found this deal particularly interesting. What would you have done?

My problem as second bidder was what should I call? After much deliberation, I decided 2 rather than Double or 1NT.

My partner luckily had diamonds and was able to make 9 tricks. On reflection, because opener's bid says nothing about diamonds, except that he has two of that suit, I think I should have doubled.

What do you think? How would you have bid?
